Funeral services for the Rev. William Zimry (Zim) Sims, widely known Methodist preacher of the Buckhart community, were conducted at the Pleasant Home Rock Church Sunday, with the Rev. Oscar Cunningham of Ava officiating, and burial was in the Tetrick cemetery under direction of the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
The Rev. Sims had served as pastor of several churches in Douglas county, and was still preaching in the area at the time of his last illness.
He died at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at the Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, at the age of 75. The son of Seigle and Susian[sic] Wallace Sims, he was born at Prior, in Douglas county, on Aug. 13, 1884.
The Rev. Sims was married Dec. 21, 1902, at Buckhart, to Callie Upshaw, who died on April 16, 1924. On Aug. 5, 1926, he was married at West Plains to Lucy Wilson, who survives.
Survivors besides his wife are: Three children by his first marriage, Mrs. Iva Scherer of Drury, Mrs. Oma Adams of Huntington Park, Calif., and Bretney Sims of Ava; three step-daughters, Mrs. Rosa Hiler of Willow Springs, Mrs. Flora Williams of Vanzant, and Mrs. Estella Maddox of Fulton; one sister, Mrs. A. C. Sherrill of Sapulpa, Okla.; two brothers, Clarence Sims of Mtn. Grove and Ed Sims of Pullman, Wash.; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and seven step-grandchildren.
The Rev. Sims was converted at the age of 20 and was baptized and united with the Methodist Church at Victory. He began ministerial work in 1936, pastored the Sweden Church 22 years, the Pleasant Hill Church 17 years and the Holt Church for 18 years.
