Death of Levi J. Gifford.

The body of Levi J. Gifford arrived this morning from Hebron, Nebraska for burial in the Great Bend cemetery beside his wife. Mr. Gifford died Sunday morning, aged 82 years, 1 month and 1 day; at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carey, at Hebron, Nebraska. He has been living with his daughter the past three years. Mr. Gifford was born March 18, 1820, at Tuckerston, N. J. and was married to Mary Morey of Bass River, Ocean county, N. J. March 29 1846. He came to this country and settled on a farm, now the townsite of Redwing, in the Cheyenne Bottoms in 1874. He lived there until 1886 when he moved to his farm southwest of town where he lived until going to Nebraska three years ago. A family of 13 children was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gifford, of which 9 survive the parents: L. J. and R. M. Gifford of Bucklin; H. J. and A. B. Gifford of Haviland and G. W. Gifford were here to attend the funeral. John Carey, a son-in-law, accompanied the body from Nebraska. Mr. Gifford was a birthright member of the Friends church to which faith he held through life. The body was interred in the Great Bend cemetery at noon today. Rev. Hestwood read the funeral sermon.
