Leliaetta Bruns, 88; Longtime Teacher
A memorial service for Leliaetta Bruns, chairman of the mathematics department at University City High School for 44 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 7001 Forsyth Boulevard. Burial was Wednesday in Mount Lebânon Cemetery in Bridgeton.
Miss Bruns, 88, died Sunday of cancer at Mary Queen and Mother Nursing Home in Shrewsbury, where she had resided for two years.
Born in 1900 in St. Charles, Miss Bruns earned a bachelor’s degree in 1921 from Washington University and a master’s degree from the university in 1924. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.
She helped to organize Heritage House, residential apartments at 2800 Olive Street that were established by teachers in the St. Louis area. She also had been a member of the board of control at Bethel Lutheran Church.
Surviving are two nieces, Lois Ronning of Kansas City and Dorothy Schrei of St. Louis.
